Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel
There’s nothing like a celebrity feud to take your mind off the important things in life. Whether it’s a fresh beef between stars you barely know or a long-simmering dispute between established names, a celebrity feud is the perfect distraction for tumultuous times. And these are tumultuous times.
The great thing about celebrity beefs is that they don't respect industry boundaries. Reality stars can feud with actors, athletes can feud with musicians, gossip columnists can feud with rockstars, and so on and so forth until Hollywood implodes. Battles between celebrities are a reminder that, despite the private jets and the silicon lips, they're just like us: insecure, attention-hungry, and terrified.
Without further ado, here's our list of the 40 Most Famous Hollywood Feuds of All Time. Sit back, relax, and pretend the world isn't ending.
Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift
The quintessential show business feud of our time erupted at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. We're all familiar with the circumstances: as Taylor Swift accepted her Best Female Video award, Kanye rushed the stage, grabbed the mic, and (rightfully) declared that Beyoncé was robbed. All hell broke loose.
The beef has had its ups and downs since then. There was a momentary truce in the mid-2010s, but crude lyrics targeting Swift on Kanye's track "Famous" reopened old wounds. Swift was furious that Kanye called her a "b*itch," but Kanye insisted she okayed the lyric on a phone call. His wife, Kim Kardashian, backed him up.
Most recently, a Swift fan account shared leaked footage that appeared to support Taylor's version of the call. This feud is not only alive, it's picking up speed.
Taylor Swift vs. the World
Kanye's not the only famous in name in Taylor's bad books. Over the years, she's feuded - sometimes righteously, sometimes not - with everyone from music mogul Scooter Braun (righteous) to Katy Perry (righteous) to Nicki Minaj (decidedly less righteous) to DJ/producer/ex-lover Calvin Harris (a lover's quarrel; who are we to judge?).
Love her or hate her, T-Swift's long history of Hollywood beefs proves she won't back down from confrontation.
Kim Kardashian vs. Chloe Grace Moretz
Like Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian is a lightning rod for controversy, conflict, adoration, and, yes, feuds. One of her longest-standing beefs - shockingly - is with Chloe Grace Moretz, the former child star and current B-list actress.
Here's how it started: In 2016, Kim shared one of her countless break-the-internet selfies and Moretz took offence. "I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies," she replied.
Big mistake. Moretz's comments may have been well-meaning, but Kardashian fans accused her of slut-shaming and Kim called her a hypocrite. (Moretz posed nude for Nylon in 2015).
It didn't end there. Moretz sided with Swift in the dispute over Kanye's "Famous" lyrics and, in 2017, she called Kim "sad" in an interview with Variety. Kim's sister, Khloe, ripped Moretz on Twitter and Kim sent her an underhanded Valentine's Day gift, along with several other haters. This feud has yet to be resolved.
Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner vs. Jordyn Woods
I know what you're thinking: how could such a happy-looking pair ever end up in a feud??
As it turns out, Kim isn't the only member of the Kardashian-Jenner brood with a taste for celebrity warfare. Last year, her sisters Kylie and Khloe were involved in a major blow-up with Jordyn Woods, Kylie's one-time best friend, after Woods and Khloe's partner, Tristan Thompson, were caught getting cuddly at a party in L.A. Thompson, a rugged power forward with the Cleveland Cavaliers, has a history of infedility, but it was Woods that Khloe blamed for breaking up her family.
We kind of feel bad for Kylie in all of this! Khloe should have known not trust Thompson around available women, and Woods should have known not to get close to Khloe's man. Kylie's now stuck in the middle of a heartbroken sister, a suspect best friend, and a 6'10" Canadian.
Paris Hilton vs. Nicole Richie
Now that we’ve discussed some of the Kardashian-Jenner-West conglomerate’s most impactful beefs, it’s time to look at one of the people responsible for their prominence: Paris Hilton.
Paris is an early-2000s icon. She was an influencer before anyone knew what an influencer was, the progenitor of a now-endless lineage of bar-hopping platinum waifs and one of the first celebrities to wear the “famous for being famous” label as a badge of honor. In her prime, a party couldn’t technically be called a party unless Paris was in attendance.
Nicole Richie slinked alongside Paris for much of Hilton’s heyday. They starred together in the trailblazing reality show The Simple Life and were captured by the paparazzi attending a seemingly endless string of parties, openings, and galas.
Nobody knows exactly what caused the fissure between this once-inseparable pair, but by 2005 they were no longer friends. Richie claims they simply grew apart; some believe she showed Paris’s sex tape at a party, aggravating the growing rift.
Today, the worst of the feud is over, but the friendship isn’t close to its turn-of-the-century peak.
Paris Hilton vs. Lindsay Lohan
Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are two of this century’s most notorious party girls. When they joined forces, as they did on a night out with Britney Spears in 2006, the eyes of celebrity-watchers everywhere were magnetically drawn to their tightknit, Red Bull-flavored vortex.
Unfortunately, as so often happens when larger-than-life personalities attempt to coexist, Lohan and Hilton’s bond crumbled as quickly as it formed. Lohan told the press that Paris hit her. Paris called Lindsay a #PathologicalLiar in a comment on an Instagram post. In May 2006, Lindsay was rumored to be dating Paris's ex. There were stints in rehab, periods in prison; NBA star Baron Davis got involved for some reason.
And round and round the world turned: just last year, Paris called Lohan "beyond lame and embarrassing" on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen's seminal gossip corner. This feud may outlive us all.
50 Cent vs. Floyd Mayweather
At this point, 50 Cent may be better known for his celebrity feuds than his rap career. After all, it was the infamous beef with Ja Rule that helped propel him to stardom in the early 2000s. His musical output has dried up since then, but he's managed to remain in the public eye through a combination of questionable business ventures and public disagreements with big-name celebs, including Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The relationship between 50 and Floyd was once rosy: 50 escorted Mayweather into the ring before his 2007 bout with Oscar De La Hoya, and in 2011 they appeared together on the cover of XXL.
But things eventually turned sour. 50 joined forces with Floyd's chief ring rival, Manny Pacquiao, and started firing shots over social media. Rick Ross and T.I. got involved. In 2014, Mayweather called 50 "irrelevant." Before long, the feud devolved into petty insults and brainless boasts: 50 dissed Mayweather's reading ability; Mayweather reminded him who was richer.
50 Cent vs. Wendy Williams
50 Cent has also feuded extensively with Wendy Williams, host of the wildly popular Wendy Williams Show. And Wendy doesn't play: she questioned 50's sexuality after he made transphobic comments about a former collaborator, and she scolded him for his relationship with his estranged son.
50 isn't shy, either. Not only did he deny Williams entry to his pool party in 2019 - pretty much a capital offence - but he's also made fun of her substance abuse issues and her husband's infedelity. Things got so grim that Williams pulled 50's rumored ex, Vivica A. Fox, into the mix.
Today, thanks to Wendy's mature response to probing questions on Watch What Happens Live, Williams and Cent are sitting on a fragile truce. How long that truce lasts is anyone's guess.
50 Cent vs. Lala Kent and Randall Emmett
Despite choosing formidable foes in Floyd Mayweather and Wendy Williams, 50 Cent clearly doesn't mind picking on less worthy opponents. Case in point: his beef with Lala Kent, star of the hit reality show Vanderpump Rules, and her Hollywood producer fiancé Randall Emmett.
The feud started when 50 publicly demanded that Emmett repay a $1 million loan. When Emmett delayed, 50 continued his attacks. He mocked the producer for claiming chest pains from the stress of the situation and maintained a consistent barrage of social media digs. Eventually the debt was paid and all was well... until Lala claimed on Watch What Happens Live that she'd bruised 50's ego during the back-and-forth. 50 ripped into the Utah native, mocking her drinking, her cosmetic choices, and the admittedly transactional nature of her first date with Emmett. He even made fun of their COVID-delayed wedding.
The lesson? Don't make 50 mad… and never bring up old beef.
Lisa Vanderpump vs. the cast of 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'
Before Lala gets involved in another feud, she should seek advice from her Vanderpump Rules boss Lisa Vanderpump. The long-time Real Housewives of Beverly Hillscast member has made a living off of drama as a central character on two hit reality shows.
Unfortunately, her Housewives run recently came to an end after nine explosive seasons. The issue? A feud that not even she could handle: “Puppygate.”
The long and the short of the conflict is that castmate Dorit Kemsley adopted, and prompty re-homed, a puppy from Lisa's charity, Vanderpump Dogs. The new owners decided they didn't want the dog either, and gave it to a shelter, which returned it to Lisa.
That might all sound harmless, but it unearthed simmering tensions between Lisa and the rest of the cast that ultimately resulted in her departure. Poor Lisa: all she has left is her entrepreneurial empire, a sprawling manor, “Villa Rosa,” in Beverly Hills, and a separate reality show where she sets the rules. We think she’ll survive.
Katy Perry vs. the Catholic Church
The most lopsided feud on this list features popstar Katy Perry and a rapidly-dwindling group of Los Angeles nuns. Lopsided in who's favor? That's tough to say: Perry has glitz, glamour, and Orlando Bloom in her corner; the nuns have God.
Several years ago, Katy Perry tried to buy a Los Angeles estate from the local branch of the Catholic Church (the Archdiocese) that used to be a convent (a home for nuns). The nuns originally purchased the property way back in '72, and the Archdiocese kicked them out to sell it in 2011. However, the surviving nuns believed they still owned the property and refused to sell it to Perry.
What insued was - and continues to be - a vicious courtroom drama involving the Pope (the head offices of the Catholic Church have to approve the sale) and the death of one of the last two nuns from the convent. The survivor said Perry had "blood on her hands."
Elton John vs. Madonna
Speaking of sacrilege and blasphemy, Madonna ain't no virgin when it comes to celebrity feuds. Her most famous tiff was with Elton John - and Sir Elton fired most of the shots in this catty beef.
The opening salvo came when John dissed Madonna's theme song for the 2002 Bond film Die Another Day, calling it the worst James Bond theme ever. Mean. He also accused her of lip-synching at least twice, including at her 2012 Super Bowl performance, and his husband, David Furnish, has been known to sneak in his own insults. Finally, in 2019, Elton called Madonna "ungracious and nasty" for speaking badly about Lady Gaga.
Never talk shit about Lady Gaga, because Elton John will find you.
Brandy vs. Monica
The best part about this feud is the soundtrack: Brandy and Monica's 1998 hit "The Boy Is Mine" slaps every bit as hard today as it did in the sixth grade.
The beef between this pair was, for years, a rumor. Insiders wondered if the hit single was inspired by real-life events, but it wasn't until the early 2010s that the pair fessed to the feud.
After a brief cooling-off period, during which they released a follow-up track, "It All Belongs To Me," the bad blood reemerged. Brandy refused to participate in Monica's social media #SoGoneChallenge, and supposedly tried to take sole credit for the duo's Grammy-winning hit at Essence Fest 2018.
Aretha Franklin vs. Dionne Warwick
Celebrity feuds have no age limit. In fact, it's almost inspiring to see older stars like Elton John and Lisa Vanderpump doling out generous helpings of shade well into their 50s and 60s.
Aretha Franklin was in her mid-70s when she ignited a beef with fellow vocals legend Dionne Warwick in 2017. (The two are pictured above flanking Chaka Khan). Apparently, comments Warwick made five years earlier, at Whitney Houston's funeral, had gotten under the Queen of Soul's skin. She decided to air her grievances in the most dated and iconic way possible: via a lengthy fax to the Associated Press.
The feud was ultimately short-lived (although rumor has it the two clashed at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival); Franklin passed away in 2018 at the age of 76, a fighter to her last breath.
Aaron Carter vs. his family
Is there anything sadder than a vicious feud that drives apart a once-close family? Yes: The same thing, but add a couple washed-up popstars to the mix.
Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boys fame, and his younger brother Aaron, a former solo star, had it all: Money, adoring fanbases, and international platforms. Today, they share more restraining orders than (current) hit singles. Their on-again-off-again relationship has stretched the limits of brotherly love. Aaron once credited Nick with saving his life by supporting him through a stint in rehab; he also accused him of sexually assaulting a 91-year-old woman, beating up Paris Hilton, and skipping their sister's funeral. Nick filed a restraining order against Aaron after the younger Carter allegedly threatened to murder his pregnant wife.
Prayers up for the Carter family.
Angelina Jolie vs. Jon Voight
She's one of the world's most glamorous women; he's one of the world's most vocal Trump supporters. Name a more dysfunctional father-daughter duo...
It seems kind of cold to throw a lifelong interfamily dispute on a list of shallow Hollywood beefs, but hey, these are two of Tinsel Town's biggest stars! Their lives are our business!
Jon Voight ditched his family when Angelina Jolie was an infant, but for years they maintained a cordial relationship. That fell apart during Jolie's marriage to Billy Bob Thornton, when Voight nearly fucked up the couple's plans to adopt a baby by publicizing the matter at a pre-Oscar party. To make matters worse, Voight publicly questioned Jolie's mental health following her split from Billy Bob. What a great dad! In response, Jolie ditched Voight as her legal last name.
The pair eventually reconciled after five years of icy silence, and Voight reportedly has a relationship with his grandkids. But we're guessing there's no Trump talk allowed in the Jolie household.
Lauren Conrad vs. Heidi Montag
The mid-2000s were a turbulent time by pre-2020 standards. Kobe and Shaq parted ways, George Bush presided over an international reign of terror in retaliation for 9/11, and America was glued to the spectacular dissolution of the friendship between Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag, the blindingly blonde nucleus of MTV's hit reality shows The Hills.
At the center of the drama - like all drama on the show - was Heidi's then-boyfriend and now-husband, Spencer Pratt. Lauren (wisely) told Heidi not to get involved, but Heidi followed her heart instead of her head. 'Speidi' was born, and Lauren and Heidi's once-strong friendship was forever laid to rest.
Lady Gaga vs. Perez Hilton
Lady Gaga's been involved in a few feuds during her time in the spotlight - the latest round of Madonna and Elton John's fight is all about her - but none were as nasty as her beef with celebrity blogger and internet villain Perez Hilton.
Former friends, Gaga and Hilton's relationship collapsed under the weight of a series of back-and-forth insults and attacks. Hilton made fun of Gaga's legitimately serious hip injury. She stormed off a shared cooking segment to escape his questions. He shared racy images. She called him a stalker and a drug addict.
Hilton has never been shy about getting in the gutter, and during this feud Gaga proved she was willing to stoop just as low.
Kanye West vs. Jimmy Kimmel
We're back to the man that headlined this list, Kanye West.
Kanye is without question a visionary musician and one of the most important and influential artists of his generation. And, like so many great artists, he's known to be a little... off. Maybe a bit unpredictable and a tad difficult. That's the side he showed in his short-lived but explosive feud with late night host Jimmy Kimmel.
In 2013, Kanye sat for a rare interview with BBC Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe. The back-and-forth is now legendary. Kanye lurched from topic to topic, peppering in outlandish boasts and proclamations while Lowe goaded him on.
Kimmel, your weird cousin's fav late night host, thought the interview was comedy gold and enlisted two children to recreate it. Kanye didn't approve. He unleashed an iconic stream of caps-locked tweets with Kimmel delivering gleeful replies.
In a matter of days, the pair squashed the beef on a widely-watched episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. But, for a moment in 2013, the world encircled the duo like a pair of oddly-matched schoolyard combatants.
Justin Bieber vs. Orlando Bloom
In 2014, at a restaurant on the Spanish island of Ibiza, English actor Orlando Bloom approached and threw a punch at Canadian instigator Justin Bieber over an alleged affair with Bloom's ex-wife, Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr.
Yes, this was a truly international feud. It was also remarkably seedy: rumor has it Bieber exchanged flirty texts (and maybe more) with Kerr while she and Bloom were still married. The couple split not long after the alleged interactions. Before the infamous Ibiza blow-up, Bloom was spotted sharing a cigarette with Biebz' ex, Selena Gomez.
We may never know the whole truth behind the Bieber-Bloom-Kerr triangle, but we know it was enough for good guy Bloom to challenge Bieber in public. Never underestimate the power of an Australian supermodel.
Whoopi Goldberg vs. Bella Thorne
First, a disclaimer: we looove us some Whoopi. She's a comedy icon and a show business inspiration. However, we can't take her side in her feud with Big Love's Bella Thorne, who she criticized in 2019 for leaking her own nudes.
Thorne, like so many celebrities before her, was the victim of a hacking-and-extortion plot. Her private pics were stolen, and rather than let the thieves control the narrative, she published the photos independently in an effort to regain control of her body and her public image.
Whoopi not only had a problem with Thorne's decision to publish the photos - she disagreed with their very existence: "If you're famous, I don't care how old you are," Goldberg said. "You don't take nude pictures of yourself."
Thorne was disgusted by the comment, and we have to agree: her body, her choice.
The dispute between Goldberg and Thorne was a short sentence in a much larger, ongoing conversation about women's rights, cyber security, celebrity culture, and more. Who said celebrity feuds can't be meaningful?
Martha Stewart vs. Gwyneth Paltrow
Some celebrity feuds are microcosms of critical societal discussions. Others are pure, trashy fun. Case in point: Martha Stewart vs. Gwyneth Paltrow.
Stewart, the owner of a sprawling lifestyle empire worth billions, seems to regard Paltrow, who heads her own line of lifestyle products, Goop, as an industry interloper. She hasn't hidden her disdain: Stewart has attacked Paltrow's acting and even mocked her famous "conscious uncoupling" from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin with a dessert name. Proving she won't back down, Paltrow created her own underhanded dessert, the Jailbird Cake, making light of Stewart's 2014 prison stint.
We look forward to more delicious attacks from these two in the future.
Naomi Campbell vs. Tyra Banks
Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks, two of the most beautiful women in human history, have a long-simmering feud dating back to the early '90s. At the time, Naomi was perhaps the world's most sought-after supermodel, a trailblazer who shattered glass ceiling after glass ceiling and paved the way for generations of black models. Tyra was a rookie on the fashion circuit. She was immediately compared to Campbell for her otherworldly beauty and, frankly, her race.
Ultimately, this feud says more about racist stereotyping and the lack of space for racialized people in the international fashion industry than it does about Banks or Campbell. That's not to say either was blameless - Naomi is accused of pushing Tyra out of lucrative shows and a prestigious modeling agency; Tyra has continued to revisit the beef - but the press is liable for hyping the feud out of proportion and making it difficult for the fashion icons to coexist.
Isaiah Washington vs. Patrick Dempsey
It's not surprising that actors on long-running shows become involved in disputes now and then. You spend every day in close proximity, struggling through early call-times and scenes that just aren't working, rehashing the same plotpoints and character developments again and again.
But it's rare that these disputes devolve into physical conflicts. That's what happened on the set of Grey's Anatomy, where Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey reportedly got into a "violent brawl" in 2006. After the fact, reports suggested that Washington's use of a homophobic slur sparked the melee; he was fired before season four. Washington later suggested that Dempsey's tardiness, combined with the usual elevated on-set emotions, incited the incident. We may never know the truth.
Katherine Heigl vs. Shonda Rhimes
It wasn't only the men who beefed on Grey's Anatomy; the show's visionary creator, Shonda Rhimes, had her own ongoing feud with star Katherine Heigl.
The pair's already-tense relationship was battered by Heigl's decision to withdraw herself from Emmy contention in 2008. Rhimes had specifically penned a light season for the actress to give her space to pursue her movie career. Ditching an Emmy win isn't much of a thank you.
Heigl left the show in the sixth season, saying it was tough to work in a contentious environment. Everything was quiet for a couple years before Rhimes responded, saying she wasn't surprised by the departure because "people show you who they are."
Jay Leno vs. David Letterman and Conan O'Brien
Exactly one million years ago, The Tonight Show, currently hosted by giggling fifth-grader Jimmy Fallon, was presided over by Johnny Carson. As the '90s dawned, Carson prepared to relinquish his spot behind the big desk. David Lettermen, known today for having a beard, then hosted Late Night, which ran directly after Carson. He expected to be the Tonight Show's next host.
That didn't happen. NBC execs worried Letterman might be too harsh, too mean (too funny) for Carson's middle America audience, so they gave the spot to bland everyman Jay Leno. Letterman dipped to CBS to host a rival show, Late Show with David Letterman. Leno got the job and the ratings, Letterman got the critical acclaim.
The feud between Letterman and Leno was mostly a ratings rivalry for many years. Then, in the early 2000s, when Leno was planning his own departure, Late Night host Conan O'Brien was touted as his replacement. In fact, NBC promised him the spot.
At the last second, history repeated itself. The network backed out, Leno jumped back in, and the comedy world rallied to Conan's defence. His most prominent supporter? David Letterman.
Donald Trump vs. Rosie O’Donnell
Donald Trump is involved in a number of ongoing feuds, including with America's geopolitical allies, a broad range of domestic political rivals, and common decency. But none of those battles have been as vicious as his back and forth with comedian Rosie O'Donnell.
O'Donnell and Trump had been feuding for years before he announced his candidacy. In 2006, she called him a "snake-oil salesman" and made it known that he had gone bankrupt and had had several failed relationships. Unfortunately, that meanspirited attack set a low bar for Trump, who ripped into O'Donnell when she announced her engagement to Michelle Rounds. The petty barbs continued for years: he mocked her weight-loss surgery and her return to and departure from The View. His political career didn't soften him, as we all know: he insulted her during a primary debate and during a head-to-head with Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.
Rosie, meanwhile, has been one of his most vocal critics during his time as President.
Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano and Jennie Garth
There was a time when Shannen Doherty was among the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, a hearthrob with a knack for subtly sexy teen characters. She starred on Beverly Hills, 90210 and later on Charmed.
Unfortunately, her relationship with castmates was anything but charmed. On 90210, she clashed with co-star Jennie Garth and was fired in season four for disruptive behaviour. On Charmed, her relationship with Alyssa Milano quickly went from tight - she was a bridesmaid at Milano's wedding in 1999 - to fraught. By the start of season three, the pair weren't on speaking terms.
Will Smith vs. Janet Hubert
There are three types of people in this world: those who prefer the old Aunt Vivian, those who prefer the new one, and those who don't know what the hell we're talking about.
We're talking, of course, about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the show that made Will Smith a household name. Midway through the show's six-year run, the actress who played Will's formidable Aunt Vivian Banks, Janet Hubert, was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid. The reason? An running feud between Hubert and several other castmembers, including Smith and Alphonso Ribeiro.
Several participants continue to hold grudges. Hubert has publicly blamed Smith for her career slowdown, and Ribeiro has taken shots in his stand-up routine. The insults are still flying fast and furious; don't expect this feud to end any time soon.
Lea Michele vs. the cast of 'Glee'
Diversity and inclusion were continuously celebrated on Glee, but behind the show's family-friendly facade worked a troubled, sometimes difficult cast. At the center of it all, like the character she played, was Lea Michele.
We've known for years that Michele clashed with co-star Naya Rivera. More recently, a number of the show's stars and extras have shared their own horror stories. Samantha Marie Ware, who joined the cast in season 6, said Michele made her life a living hell. Alex Newell and Heather Morris backed Ware's version of events, and Kevin McHale and Amber Riley appeared to agree in cryptic tweets. Even singer-songwriter Jordan Pruitt jumped on the bandwagon, saying everyone knows Michele is a "horrible human being."
Michele has apologized for her behavior.
William Shatner vs. the cast of 'Star Trek'
The original Star Trek series is one of the most forward-thinking television programs of all time. The storylines addressed critical social issues and its cast was unusually diverse for the era.
But all was not well behind the scenes. Multiple cast members feuded with lead William Shatner, included Walter Koenig, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols and, perhaps most notably, George Takei. That particular beef has lingered: Shatner called Takei "psychotic" for not inviting him to his wedding.
The one relationship that Shatner managed not ruin on set was with Leonard Nimoy. But that, too, ended in tragedy. The former friends didn't speak for the final five years of Nimoy's life.
Kim Cattrall vs. the cast of 'Sex and the City'
Another example of cast members banding together against a shared foe comes from Sex and the City, the timeless story of womanhood in the world's most vibrant location. Kim Cattrall's Samantha was an aspirational figure on-screen, a sexually alive, take-no-shit powerbroker who eschewed traditional relationships for a lifestyle that suited her.
Unfortunately, the on-screen besties didn't mesh so seamlessly behinds the scenes. Cattrall frequently clashed with her castmates, most notably lead Sarah Jessica Parker. There were disputes over money - SJP made more than the rest of the cast - and Cattrall sat apart from her three co-stars at the 2004 Emmys.
This feud really hasn't been resolved. Cattrall told Piers Morgan in 2017 that she was never friends with her castmates, and its rumored the third movie was cancelled due to the dispute.
Clinton Kelly vs. Stacy London
On What Not To Wear, Clinton Kelly and Stacy London were a fearsome duo, a two-headed fashion wrecking ball trained to eviscerate poorly dressed saps before rebuilding both their wardrobe and their self-esteem.
Unfortunately, the two had their differences off screen. In 2017, four years after the end of the show's ten-year run, Clinton discovered, and announced to the world, that Stacy had blocked him on Twitter. The simple act, which Stacy never addressed, played like the culmination of years of frustration and annoyance.
Clinton appeared to take it in stride, but the show's dedicated fans were heartbroken by the betrayal.
Demi Lovato vs. Selena Gomez
Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are walking billboards for the perils of child stardom. It couldn't have been easy growing up in the Disney Channel empire, but at least they had each other. The two met when they were barely more than toddlers and grew up singing, acting, and filming vlogs side by side.
But in 2010, cracks in the relationship emerged. By 2013, they were cool but no longer besties. Demi unfollowed Selena in 2014, then refollowed her the next year, then unfollowed her again after her overdose two years ago. As recently as this year, Demi told Harper's Bazaar that the two were no longer friends. Here's hoping the starlets can make things right.
Gabrielle Union vs. Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell built a brand around being a dick to talent show contestants. Now, thanks to Gabrielle Union, we know he's a dick to everybody.
Union joined America's Got Talent in 2019 and left after a single season. During her brief tenure, she says she heard racist jokes (including one from Jay Leno), witnessed discrimination based on sexual orientation, and dealt with excessive focus on the female judges' physical appearance. As one of the show's producers, Cowell failed to prevent these things from happening. He also smoked cigarettes around Union, who is allergic, which is a level of dickishness we didn't know he possessed.
Drake Bell vs. Josh Peck
A serious feud between Drake Bell and Josh Peck is every 90s kid's nightmare, so before we go too far: don't worry, this one's got a happy ending.
Like many childhood friends (or co-workers), Drake and Josh aren't as tight today as they were in their tweens. But their friendship was almost damanged beyond repair in 2018 when Josh failed to invite Drake to his wedding. The snubbed co-star was understandably hurt. He aired his grievances in now-deleted tweets about loyalty, true colors, and cutting ties.
But the ties were never cut. Drake eventually admitted the tweets were a bad idea, and Josh eventually forgave him, and the two are now buddies again. Finally, a happy ending.
Juliana Margulies vs. Archie Panjabi
The Good Wife was a groundbreaking network drama starring, among others, Juliana Margulies as a cool and clever lawyer/Hillary Clinton avatar, and Archie Panjabi as a leather-jacket-wearing private investigator. The show was lauded for its strong female leads and incisive storylines.
Unfortunately, the women behind two of those leads couldn't make it work off screen. Margulies and Panjabi's feud was so dire that they never shot together during Panjabi's final two seasons on the show.
What happened? That's kind of a mystery. Neither woman has shed light on the details or the origin of the feud (although Panjabi published a single, eyebrow-raising tweet in 2015). All we know is that there will be no Good Wife reunion, as co-star Alan Cumming confirmed in a 2019 interview.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson vs. B.o.B.
It takes a special kind of scientist to make an impact on the pop culture landscape. You have to be brilliant, first of all. You also have to study an area of science that makes sense to the general public - astronomy, for example, or zoology. Finally, you need at least a shred of charisma and stage presence.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson checks all three boxes, and he's no stranger to controversy. He was accused - and later cleared - of sexual misconduct; he's attracted criticism for insensitive tweets; and in 2016, he clashed with B.o.B. over the 'Flat Earther' conspiracy theory.
It started in January, when the Georgia rapper shared his (clearly incorrect) beliefs with fans on Twitter. Neil DeGrasse fired back, patiently explaining in a series of tweets how scientists know the Earth is round. B.o.B. responded with a song - yes, a diss track - calling out Tyson and revisiting his (clearly incorrect) evidence. On one verse, he calls science a "cult."
Tyson shocked the world by responding with his own diss track, performed by his nephew. The effort did nothing to dissuade B.o.B., who refuses to ditch his rediculous beliefs.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson vs Vin Diesel and Tyrese
The cast of the Fast & Furious franchise is famously familial. They've got each other's back on-screen and off. So when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson lumbered into the franchise's fifth film, there was no reason to expect drama.
Over the course of the next three movies, though, The Rock overstayed his welcome. He and co-stars Tyrese and Vin Diesel exchanged a number of passive aggressive Instagram barbs. Eventually, The Rock's character, Hobbs, was packaged with Jason Statham's Shaw and cast away to a spin-off franchise.
Nothing comes between family.
Anthony Daniels vs. Kenny Baker
C-3PO and R2D2, the robots that help Luke, Leah and co. defeat the bad guys in the Star Wars movies, are one of film's most recognizable duos. If the original movies were made today, those roles would be played by a slick combination of voice actors and special effects. But not in the '70s - inside those metallic suits were living, breathing, and sweating human actors.
Kenny Baker played R2D2, Anthony Daniels played C-3PO, and they did not get along. Baker, who passed away in 2016, said Daniels was the rudest man he ever met, a widely disliked figure who was personally disrespectful and refused to join Baker for lucrative fan appearances.
Daniels comments don't help his image. He suggested the R2 role didn't require acting talent and could be played by anyone.
