Dev Patel and Jordan Peele have a definite hit on their hands with Monkey Man.

Friday, the first trailer for the action-thriller was released, giving theatergoers a three-minute look at what to expect from this clearly riveting tale of vengeance inspired by the legend of Hanuman, a Hindu god.

Monkey Man is out April 5. Patel is joined in the cast by Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande. The film, co-produced under Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions banner, marks the Oscar-nominated actor’s debut as a director.

Catch the new trailer up top. You’ll recognize the music as Labh Janjua and Panjabi MC’s “Beware” remix featuring Jay-Z, originally released back in 2003. Also featured in the trailer is a joke centered on a small car nicknamed "Nicki Minaj."

Patel’s upcoming slate also includes Rabbit Trap, directed by Bryn Chainey and also starring Rosy McEwen. Last year, he was among the fellow A-listers assembled for Wes Anderson's The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which was recently nominated for Best Live Action Short at the 2024 Oscars.

Meanwhile, Peele is fresh off teasing that his next directorial feature could wind up being his "favorite movie." Most recently, Peele directed the brilliant NOPE, which in this writer's opinion still stands tall as one of the most finely crafted blockbusters of the current era.
