Fresh off the release of his well-received album Twelve Carat Toothache, Post Malone joined up with the Full Send podcast team for a nearly two-hour interview during which his affinity for cigarettes was discussed.

Around the 12:11 mark in the video up top, Posty was asked to reveal how many cigarettes he typically rips on a given day.

“On a really terrible day…there’s a very fine line between a terrible day and a good day,” Malone said. “40, 45. By the time I ask Ben for that second pack, I’m like, ‘Alright dude, chill out.’ … But then by the time I open that third pack, I’m like, ‘I’m a total piece of shit and I need to go to sleep.’”

Asked to reveal the most cigarettes he’s “ever ripped in a day,” Posty estimated the count was “probably, like, 80,” or roughly four packs. He also said he used to smoke in bed but no longer does so.

“Now I have, like, a special zone that has my PC in it and my Magic the Gathering shit so I just go down there and fucking rip cigs and build decks and die in Apex Legends,” he said.

As for whether or not he has concerns over the habit having a negative impact on his voice, Posty pointed to Johnny Cash as an example of someone who still “sounded cool” despite smoking.

“Yeah, it definitely has,” he said when asked if he was worried smoking could “fuck up” his voice. “But I mean, Johnny Cash smoked his whole life. He sounded cool, you know?”

Friday, Amazon Music’s Rotation premiered footage of the Twelve Carat Toothache listening experience, which was recorded on June 2 with Post Malone’s friends and family looking on.

“I’m just trying to recreate the feeling that you get in the studio, hearing it at 6 a.m., just hanging out and having fun,” Posty said in a statement when unveiling the video. “I originally wanted to do it in a spaceship. But it’s not possible—so I’m told.”

Ideally, Post’s preferred setting of a spaceship will be made possible for a future album. In the meantime, see the full Twelve Carat Toothache listening experience below.
