Ahead of Sunday’s show, Weezy was honored with the Global Impact Award during the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective event in Los Angeles. Among those confirmed to have been in attendance for the celebratory gathering were Drake and Nicki Minaj, both of whom paid tribute to the Young Money founder.

“I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same without your natural gift to be yourself,” Drake said when presenting Weezy with the honor.

When taking the stage to accept this distinction, Weezy said he was “honored” to be shown love by his fellow artists while reflecting on his early years in New Orleans.
