Governors Ball is set to return to Randall’s Island Park in New York City May 31 through June 2, and today the lineup for the ninth annual event has been unveiled. Tyler, the Creator will be headlining Friday, Florence + The Machine are locked in for Saturday's headliner, and The Strokes will close out Sunday night.
While Tyler didn't release a solo album in 2018, he stayed in the spotlight through a number of impressive freestyles, contributing to the soundtrack for The Grinch (as well as sharing more music inspired by the film), expanding his influence in the fashion world, and scoring a new deal with Sony Pictures Television. With Flower Boy's two-year anniversary coming in July, it's possible we'll receive material for a full-length project from Tyler in due time.
The inclusion of The Strokes is also of particular interest, given that the band itself is believed to be hitting the circuit extra hard in 2019 after taking a backseat to members' solo projects since the release of the last group full-length, 2013's Comedown Machine.
Additional performers throughout the three-day festival include SZA, Lil Wayne, Jorja Smith, Brockhampton, Sheck Wes, Kacey Musgraves, Ty Dolla Sign, Kaytranada, Noname, and Major Lazer. Joey Badass and Flatbush Zombies will also come together as Beast Coast.
