Lil Durk has been part of Def Jam's roster for around five years now, but in conversation with Billboard he's confirmed that he's left the record label. To coincide with his departure from the label, he's shared his first post-Def Jam release. Featuring appearances from Ty Dolla Sign and PartyNextDoor, Just Cause Y'all Waited is all about Durk's growth since signing five years ago.
"I've been with Def Jam Records for five years and they gave me my first recording contract so for that I'm forever grateful," he told Billboard. "But I'm a different artist than I was five years ago, and the time is right for a change. At the same time, Def Jam is making changes in their offices and trying a new direction. I didn't want to be a part of another regime change."
While at Def Jam, Durk released Remember My Name in 2015 and Lil Durk 2X in 2016, before releasing four mixtapes last year. With Just Cause Y'all Waited, he's taking something of a victory lap while refusing to slow down. The 12-track EP also features a remix of Logic's hit single "1-800-273-8255," as well as his buzzing single "How I Know" featuring Lil Baby. Durk promises that he has another release on the way later this year with Signed to the Streets 3, although there's no release date for that yet.
