No movie is off limits for Disney's live-action streak.

According to DeadlineBambi is still on the legacy film house's roster and slowly gaining steam. The remake was announced three and a half years ago, with almost total silence since.

Sources now tell the outlet that writer/director Sarah Polley—who won an Oscar this year for the critical darling Women Talking—is in negotiations to direct.

Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves is rumored to be a musical contributor, and Transparent writers Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster completed the most recent script draft.

The news comes just after The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey blew up at the box office, earning over $418 million globally since its release.

Bambi premiered in 1942. The remake will join Disney's animal-centric CGI reimaginings, including The Lion KingDumbo, and The Jungle Book. When it was announced in January 2020, writers Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) were attached.

Disney's re-animation project list is seemingly endless, as Lilo & Stitch's reboot is currently in production. The film stars newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Netflix's On My Block actress Sydney Agudong as Nani.

Dwyane Johnson also announced a remake of his 2016 box office hit Moana. The live-action redux is currently in early development at Disney.
The Rock will yet again star as the demigod Maui; he'll also produce with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions.

And just in case you thought that was all: Hercules is getting a Disney live-action remake, too.
