Scarborough rapper Tia Bank$ has been one of the most buzzed independent rappers in the GTA as of late. She gives us an update on her career trajectory on her new track, “We Gettin Rich.”

The tune hears Bank$ deliver high-energy bars about amassing wealth while ascending in the Toronto rap game. “What it do, I don’t know/ But we getting rich, and that’s fo sho,” she sings over an urgent drill beat by Toronto producer T-Nyce, who’s also helmed tracks for Saweetie and Cardi B. Bank$ is certainly in good company with those names, and she’s got the ambition to back it up.

“‘We Gettin Rich’ is about attaining success and financial freedom with my team, and celebrating every goal we achieve,” she tells Complex Canada. “This record is telling a story about how I’m in my own lane doing me, not worried about what anyone else is doing because I’m in my own bag. To say we gettin rich also means that we’re still grinding, still losing sleep, still going hard, still putting time into the craft.”

Bank$’ success is even more impressive considering she was briefly homeless at the onset of the pandemic.

“I was literally looking to God at that point. I was like ‘God, I need to do something about this. I need to get back on my grind,’” she said about the situation during our interview in February. “Remember, I wasn’t working. OnlyFans was my only source of income. It was hard. I was living with different friends. They were trying to support me and help me out. I had friends invest in my music whether it was something like do my hair or help me with a music video.”

The rapper tells us she’s been courted by several U.S. labels since dropping her last single “Pop Shit.” She’s getting ready to drop her debut EP, Money Talks, later this year. “I’m ready for the streets, the whole country, to hear what I have coming,” Bank$ said about the project during our chat.
