Selena Gomez Shuts Down Claims That New Song “Single Soon” Is About The Weeknd

The two dated for about 10 months back in 2017, ultimately ending on good terms.

Selena Gomez shared her new standalone track “Single Soon,” co-produced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat, on Friday. Within hours, the usual suspects started spreading claims that the song in question was written about The Weeknd. By Sunday, Gomez herself had responded to such speculation, calling it "false."

Indeed, as seen below, Gomez hopped into the comments of an Instagram post from Hollywood Life to note that all of this "couldn't be more false." As relationship historians will point out, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd first went IG official back in January 2017. By October of that year, they were reported to have gone their separate ways.

Gomez later reflected on how she and Abel ended things, telling Billboard in November 2017 that they were able to remain "best friends" despite closing out the romantic chapter of their relationship.

"I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life," she said at the time.

Gomez can currently be seen in the third season of Only Murders in the Building alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. The latest episode, following last week’s particularly hilarious “The White Room,” debuts this week on Hulu.

The Weeknd, meanwhile, has a run of international dates set to begin next month in Monterrey, Mexico. At a recent show in Warsaw, he teased a not-yet-released new track that he says will be his final feature.

"I just wanna say that this is gonna be the last feature I ever do, ever in my career," he told the crowd before performing the unreleased track.
