Sam Drysdale has just dropped his long-awaited debut LP, Testarossa [Fully Loaded]. A continuation of his current era, the album serves as an extension of the Testarossa EP released earlier this year.

With the album, Drysdale has shared the music video for the LP’s eponymous track which snags a feature from Notifi, premiering on Complex Canada today.

The Toronto songwriter has been at it since 2014, blending R&B and pop with just a hint of alternative, showing off his eclectic set of influences. “I realized that many of my biggest musical heroes [such as]The Weeknd, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and John Mayer had all been completely unwavering in their approach to art. That was an approach I wanted to adopt myself.”

Directed by Martin Klapperbein with creative direction from Helder “Sunflower Prince” Matias, the music video for “Testarossa” shows Drysdale tethered to a table Bond-style alongside a Ferrari as a woman flirts with the button to the industrial laser.

The music video is one example of Drysdale’s commitment to create on-the-nose imagery that matches his music. “The music industry moves very quickly now,” says Drysdale, “but it was the subtle sonic and visual details that made me fall in love with it in the first place.”

“Earlier in my career, I really struggled with artistic control. I didn’t have much of a voice and I sacrificed a lot of what I did have to appease people around me. A tale as old as time in music. “With this project, I was committed to doing the exact opposite, even if it meant more work.”

To celebrate the release of Testarossa [Fully Loaded], Drysdale will be playing The El Mocambo in Toronto on April 22. Find tickets here.
