Travis Scott Says Virgil Abloh Had ‘The Greatest Impact’ On Him and His ‘Taste Level’

Travis Scott has revealed the one person that had the greatest impact on him was the late Virgil Abloh.

In an exclusive interview with PIN-UP, Scott spoke on several topics that were important to him, including the word "impact." According to La Flame, making an impact is “fun,” and no one did it better than Virgil.

“Making an impact is fun,” Travis said. “But sometimes people also flip the question on you in weird ways. There are people who don’t understand why you’re influential, and it can become an issue. The person who had the greatest impact on me and my taste level was Virgil. He was a true inspiration.”

The former men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton died in November 2021 after a private battle with cancer. When he was alive, Virgil worked closely with several celebrities, and the Houston native was one of them. In the past, Virgil designed several Cactus Jack merchandise pieces, and Travis learned all that he could under his tutelage.

In another part of his conversation with PIN-UP, Travis revealed the meaning behind his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Utopia. According to the 32-year-old, the word is a mindset that anyone can create for themselves.

“Utopia is something that people feel is so far-fetched and out of reach, some perfect state of mind,” he said. “But you create it yourself. There are people who achieve utopia every day. They may not be the richest people with the dopest cribs, but it’s a utopia wherever they are, and that’s the most you can have.”

He continued: “With every album I live in these worlds in my mind — I’m trying to show people experiences where utopian things can exist, and you can enjoy yourself and have a good time. They can create energy that spews out magical things—new cures, new buildings, new avenues for people to move forward. People need to see that utopia is real.”

Fans have been waiting quite a long time for Travis to release his next studio album and it seems like the wait is almost over. Last week, Travis told FOX 26 Houston sports director Mark Berman that Utopia was on the way, and revealed he’s already played it for the Houston Astros, LeBron James and more.

Scott has also been walking around with a bodyguard that has a brown Utopia briefcase chained to him wherever the two go. Earlier this week, La Flame was a guest at the premiere of The Weeknd’s new show, The Idol, at the Cannes Film Festival in France with the briefcase-clad bodyguard in tow.
