As his debut record Montero continues to heat up the charts, Lil Nas X stopped by the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform two tracks off the album along with a cover of Dolly Parton’s anthem ‘‘Jolene.’’

Lil Nas X performed his Montero cuts “Dead Right Now” and “That’s What I Want,” aided by backing singers and a full band. He then slowed things down for the Dolly Parton cover and delivered his rendition of “Jolene” as a slow-burn, rock-tinged ballad.

The 22-year-old has been on a non-stop tear all of 2021. His debut album is expected to move between 130,000 to 140,000 album-equivalent units this week.

And while the album is packed with major features, X recently stopped by The Breakfast Club to say that there were two features he really wanted: Drake and Nicki Minaj. The latter never responded, but Drake apparently told X that he was interested in collaborating, but that the time just wasn’t right.

When asked if he had any song in mind that would have been a good fit for Drake, X immediately said he wanted Drizzy on “Dolla Sign Slime,” which now features Megan Thee Stallion. “He was still working on Certified Lover Boy, and whatnot, and he was 100 percent focused on that,” X said. “This was like a few weeks ago and I understood completely, and he said he’s down to do something, but just not the right time, he was trying to get his own shit together.”

Check out all the performances up top.
