In April of 2018, Cardi B dropped her highly-anticipated project Invasion of Privacy, which immediately left its mark on the Billboard 200 as the second-biggest debut of the year at the time. Her dominance on the charts continued into September when Invasion became 2018’s third-biggest selling hip-hop album, trailing only Drake’s Scorpion and Beerbongs & Bentleys by Post Malone.
While the remarks she made about her accomplishment were targeted at her rival Nicki Minaj, the sentiment still rings true. "NUMBERS DONT FUCKIN LIE," Cardi wrote.
Less than a year later, Cardi B keeps showing the world that numbers don’t lie when it comes to her current accomplishment. On Monday, Invasion of Privacy became the longest-charting debut album by a female rapper in Billboard 200 history, a mark previously held by 1998's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Chart Data reports.
While this feat is definitely worth acknowledging and celebrating, Cardi is already working on her sophomore album, which she jokingly said would be called Tiger Woods. As for what to expect from her new music, she seems to be interested in treading new terrain that's unlike the sounds and elements of her debut effort.
"There's certain music that I want to do, but I feel like, is people interested in that?," she said. "I feel like things have changed. It's more like a twerk sound going on right now. It's just like, 'Should I just do my music around that?' But I cannot just go with what's hot. I still gotta go with what I want to do."
A new album is just one of the boxes that Cardi hopes to check off in what should be a busy 2020. "My plan is to take a couple of months working on my album," she said. "And right after I finish my album, I'm going to rehearse for a tour. I'm already working on a tour deal. Point is that everything is going good."
