Just a week after teasing its existence, Pharrell has dropped his collaborative track withĀ Tyler, the CreatorĀ and 21 Savage.Ā
The song, which is titled āCash in Cash Out,ā marks the latest in a long list of collaborations between Pharrell and Tyler. The pair previously joined forces on āIFHY,ā a track fromĀ Tylerās 2013 album Wolf, and teamed up againĀ in 2016 on Tylerās third studio album, Cherry BombĀ (āKeep Da Oāsā).Ā
Most recently, Pharrell was featured on TylerāsĀ Call Me If You Get LostĀ cut āJuggernaut,ā before linking with theĀ rapper this year on āCome On, Letās Go,ā a standout song from NIGOās second studio album I Know NIGO!
Meanwhile, āCash in Cash Outā serves as the first collab between Pharrell and 21 Savage, arriving several months after the Atlanta rapper anointedĀ the super-producer as the āKing of Dripā on Twitter.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Pharrell explained how he landed on Tyler and 21 as his collaborators. āI knew the track was aggressive, and it doesnāt let up. So itās like those are the two. Itās like letting two pit bulls loose. Ravenous. Two ravenous wolvesā¦.Tyler went crazy. He had done that verse before he put his last album out,ā he said.
Adding that Savage āwent so crazy,ā the multi-hyphenate continued, āThatās always the driving force of my curiosity in working with somebody, is how can I push them? Because wherever I push them, it takes me. I love driving that out of people because it takes us places. You know what it is? [21 has]Ā got his point of view on things. Weāll talk about some shit or whatever, but then heāll go right in the booth and go into his zone when he finds those amazing pockets, and he just stays in character. Itās awesome to watch. Heās one of my faves.ā
On the music video, Pharrell told Lowe, āWe knew that we wanted something that was different and something that was gripping, something that I had never really done before. ā¦Ā If I canāt put a blow torch to your face, what am I doing? I mean, Scorsese doesnāt play. Why should I?ā
Following the release of his new track, Pharrell will hold his Something in the Water Festival from June 17 to June 19 in Washington, D.C. The festival, which is getting aĀ livestream via Amazon Music,Ā willĀ include performances from Clipse, Justin Timberlake, SZA, N.O.R.E., Q-Tip, Tyler, the Creator, Calvin Harris, Pusha-T, Lil Uzi Vert, Run the Jewels, Usher, 21 Savage, Mariah the Scientist, Rae Sremmurd, and many more.
