Toronto is undeniably a melting pot for cultural diversity. With the rise of summer music festivals it was only a matter of time before one was created for Afrobeats, R&B, and dancehall lovers.
For the first time ever, the city introduces Kultureland: a two-day Afro-Caribbean festival filled with everything from food, music, art exhibitions, and more. The festival will kick off from August 6 to 7 at Markham Fairgrounds and features a killer line-up that will surely have everyone slow-whining and engulfed in summer bliss.
After dropping a contender for song of the summer, “Last Last,” followed by an electrifying album, Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy will headline the Saturday show with R&B princess Jhené Aiko taking over the Sunday stage. Other performances include UK artists B Young, WSTRN, and Ms Banks, as well as Fireboy DML, Lojay, Kamo Mphela, Prettyboy D-O, StoneBwoy, TomE, Bolu Ajibade, and more.
“Starting a festival of this magnitude in Toronto felt like the right thing to do, and I knew the void needed to be filled,” founder Ferell Laditi tells Complex Canada. “My team and I decided to step up to the plate and now we are on the verge of making summer 2022 in Toronto unforgettable after two very tough years for entertainment. I am excited for the way music fans have been embracing Kultureland, it makes it even more special.”
