DDG thinks content creation is in a better place than hip-hop right now.
In a conversation with DJ Akademiks at ComplexCon 2025, the rapper and Twitch streamer reflected on how he thinks that streamers and content creators are currently doing better than a lot of musicians are. “I think all music in general is kind of fucked up,” he said when asked what he thinks of the current state of rap. “People’s attention is going towards content. I feel like content is more lit than music right now.”
He argued that people are offering more attention to content on platforms like Twitch, YouTube and TikTok than they are to music. “I’ll be on TikTok at least an hour when I wake up,” he said. “I mean, I stream, though, so I’ll be looking at my clips and seeing what people fucked with and what was clipped and all that.”
Elsewhere during the same chat with Akademiks on Sunday (Oct. 26), DDG revealed he made more money in 30 days of streaming than he did from his record label deal with Epic records. "For what I signed for, I made that in 30 days on Twitch," DDG said. It’s unclear how much he signed with the label for, but his most recent album, moo, recorded 4,400 album-equivalent units in its first week of release.
“Streamers make more than rappers, a hundred percent,” he added. “There's too many ways to make money.” He also fought back Akademiks arguing that Kai Cenat, whom DDG recently named the streamer of the year, was only streaming for 30 days straight for money reasons. “Nobody can be bigger than them right now… I think it’s more so that,” he said, noting that he believes Cenat is streaming as much as he is to cement his legacy.
At one point during the conversation, DDG also asked if Akademiks was on Ozempic, which he denied.
