Givenchy Links Past and Present With New Swim and Beachwear Collection

As Matthew M. Williams explains, the new collection is a careful fusion of both the past and the present, and California and the South of France.

California and the South of France come together in the latest collection from Givenchy.

Speaking on the impetus behind the new Givenchy Plage collection, the rollout for which stretches into next month, creative director Matthew M. Williams pointed to the unique “natural beauty” of Le Clos Fiorentina.

“The light is different in the South of France: Monsieur de Givenchy loved Le Clos Fiorentina for its protected, natural beauty and a relaxed elegance that was a world away from his busy life in Paris,” Williams said. “For Givenchy Plage, I wanted to explore that lifestyle through light and color, especially the pearly pink façades that are so typical of that region.”

The campaign images for the new collection show this fusion, which also marks a collision of the past and the present, in full action via photographer Drew Vickers. See more below.
