Those Sus AF TikTok Shop Streetwear Brands
Now I understand that all creators are trying to get a bag. But it's already bad enough when 100 different people are trying to sell the exact same Levoit air purifier or some other bullshit thatās currently on sale through the TikTok shop. Whatās worse, though, is that ever since TikTok unveiled its shopping platform in September 2023, a countless number of entrepreneurs have used it as an opportunity to launch the most mid streetwear brands weāve ever seen.
Now itās truly hard to decipher which brands are seriously trying to grow on TikTok or are just convoluted drop-shipping schemes. Despite what their end game is, they all kind of move the same way by selling very basic products through corny TikTok marketing tactics.
Usually the offerings from these TikTok Shop brands consist of simple graphic T-shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants with a logo that are priced for no more than $50 a pieceāthat alone feels like a red flag when it comes to quality, but thatās not even why theyāre so annoying. What makes them so cringey is that nearly all these brands advertise their mid products through ads disguised as engagement bait.
For example, some of these brands drop TikToks claiming their wares retail for exorbitant pricesācaptioning videos like āDamn, these sweatpants are only $2,000?ā before stitching replies revealing that it actually costs nothing to buy it or that there just so happens to be a once-in-a-lifetime sale going on. Other labels seriously post reels on their own accounts pretending to be some random TikTok user hyping up their brandās clothing. Now it might sound super vile to hate on any young streetwear brand trying to make it. But when you watch how these brands move, itās clear that their marketing seems to put a larger emphasis on making sales before anything else. Yeah, thatās the fashion business at large. But when youāre out there flexing that a poorly designed graphic T-shirt can be purchased for $10, most people can likely see what your real MO is.
