Carmelo Anthony is looking to make his return to the NBA and according to league executives, it is "most likely" Melo will join forces with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

On Tuesday, SNY.tv's Ian Begley reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are the favored destination for Carmelo Anthony. This comes after it was believed Melo would rejoin the New York Knicks and finish out his career as a veteran role player. But with Kevin Durant still on the fence about his free agency, and the Knicks' inability to swipe AD away from New Orleans, Anthony is looking to join a more championship-ready squad. The Knicks have also cooled their interests in Carmelo. Instead of searching for role players, New York is solely focused on winning the tug-of-war with Brooklyn as the favorites to land both KD and Kyrie Irving.

If Anthony ends up signing with the Lakers, it's likely he'd be reunited with former teammate J.R. Smith. This week, it was reported that the Cavs were looking to trade Smith to a team that would likely waive his contract. Once he becomes a free agent, it is assumed that J.R. Smith will join the Lakers. The addition of himself and Anthony to Los Angeles would be a two-way reunion for Smith. Not only did he win a championship in Cleveland with LeBron, but Smith played with Melo in Denver and New York before being traded to the Cavs.
