It’s an exciting time to be a Canadian soccer fan. The Great White North is making its way to the top in the world of soccer.
Currently in World Cup qualifying, Canada is on a winning streak of six games and set to be 33rd in the World FIFA Ranking by Feb. 10. Their previous high in November was 40th, making this the team’s highest-ever ranking.
Canada has a good chance of becoming one of the world’s top 32 teams. The team is leading third in the CONCACAF qualifiers and is one win away from heading to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.
Last night, Canada beat El Salvador 2-0 in a crucial game. Next up, they’ll host Jamaica and hit the road to play Costa Rica and Panama. They just need one win in any of those games, or for Panama to take a loss in their games against Honduras or the U.S., and they’ll be World Cup-bound.
“The boys have executed. They’ve had that clarity and the confidence is there,” head coach John Herdman told reporters after the game. “There’s a real confidence that we’re going to find a way and get the job done. So today was just another step… It’s going to happen, we know it going to happen.”
Canada continues to prove themselves as worthy opponents, coming closer to entering the biggest soccer tournament in the world.
