The Most Expensive Sneakers of 2019 (So Far)

The resale is too damn high. Year after year, one thing is certain: The price of sneakers will go up. We're not just talking about at retail—$5 here or there—but the amount that people are willing to shell out for shoes on the secondary market.

This year has seen its fair share of expensive sneakers. Of course there are shoes like the Travis Scott x Air Jordan Is or limited-edition Adidas Yeezys, but there are also player and friends-and-family exclusives that very few people could get their hands on that go for a ton of money on platforms like StockX (where we got the info for this list from). But how much are people willing to spend on this year's rarest shoes? Take a look.

Average resale price: $1,011

Finally, the Travis Scott x Air Jordan I has been dethroned. Following No. 1 rankings on our Best Air Jordans, Best Collaborations, and Best Sneakers lists, Cactus Jack's AJI come in dead last on this one. To be fair, though, his reworked edition of the original Air Jordan is also the only shoe on this list to have had a widespread retail release—which means it would have also ranked first here had this list been limited to sneakers with broader-scale launches. —Zac Dubasik

It's no secret that the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 has been suffering from a dip in interest, partially due to a bit of oversaturation, but a few of the recent releases have been able to reignite the flame for some. The "Antlia" colorway was a regional exclusive that released in Europe, Russia, and Ukraine earlier this month. Couple its rarity with the fact that it is drenched in reflective material, a detail that was offered in more limited quantities than the non-reflective version, and its attachment to Kanye West, and it isn't too hard to understand why pairs are reselling for an average price of over $1,200 right now. —Mike DeStefano

At the end of the day, the hype surrounding Kanye West's line of Adidas Yeezy sneakers largely depends on the availability of each model. When word got out that Ye was going be making his shoes available to the masses, resale prices mostly plummeted. That said, a number of limited iterations recently hit the market, including the reflective "Black" variation featured here. Even the more widely available non-reflective edition of this model has a respectable flip (currently averaging $453), but when you combine the reflective version's scarcity with its simple black and red color scheme, the polarizing rapper has yet another $1,000 Yeezy to add to his legacy. —Ben Felderstein

Jordan Brand has been snatching up college programs left and right. The University of Florida is one of those schools. Signing to the Jumpman certainly has its perks, like limited-edition sneakers. We even saw the football program's coach, Dan Mullen, wear a custom pair of Jordan IVs last year. But now they made it official and gave the school its own player-edition shoe. They're worth a pretty penny, too. Hope the players don't sell them and get caught with the whole improper benefits charge. —Matt Welty

While some might have canceled Kanye West for his head-scratch-inducing behavior as of late, the most limited of his sneaker designs still appear to be easy flips on the resale market. Like the previously mentioned "Antlia" colorway, the reflective "Synth" Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 was a regional drop of the West-designed low top. This pair was only released in select cities in Africa, the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and India. Given its more appealing and easier-to-match color choice, it's flipping for a little more than its counterpart at the moment. —Mike DeStefano

I don't really know much about this shoe. I imagine that Brendan Dunne could tell you a bunch about it. Its exact weight. How fast it makes you run a marathon. I put in some other good jokes here but was told to cut them out. But here are a few facts. Nike had a marathon edition of the Zoom Fly, which comes with a Fly Print upper, a 3D-printed edition to its shoe that's captivated the hearts and feet of serious runners and style enthusiasts alike. In celebration of Charlotte hosting the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, two new colorways of the Air Jordan I were created, featuring quilted leather uppers. The more coveted black colorway was actually spotted on the feet of Michael Jordan (who also designed the shoes), but this white variation was later revealed and still resells for big money. The sneakers have unique tongue tags featuring a logo inspired by the branding of the 1991 NBA All-Star Game, which was also held in Charlotte, and include silver NBA All-Star hang tags. While never released at retail, pairs were both auctioned and raffled off, with proceeds benefiting the Charlotte Hornets Foundation. —Zac Dubasik

This past February, the NBA took over downtown Charlotte for its 2019 All-Star festivities. During the always-big sneaker weekend, Michael Jordan decided to step out in a never-before-seen Air Jordan 1. The premium pair featured a quilted black leather upper, and many began to speculate about a future drop. While the MJ-designed pair would never release at retail, 65 of the 300 pairs produced would be auctioned off to aid the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, and 10 would be made available to the public via raffle. It's no surprise that a pair this limited is fetching over $3,300 on the resale market. —Mike DeStefano

As one of the premier names in all of college athletics, it made all the sense in the world for Jordan Brand to add the University of Michigan to its collegiate roster. This pair was reserved for friends and family of the program, and rumor has it that John Harbaugh can be seen wearing it on the recruiting trail, with a T-bone steak and a large glass of milk. The price tag may be lofty, but the premium quality provided by its suede paneling and Amarillo detailing makes it worth it if you have the bankroll. —Ben Felderstein

Plugs don't get much better than Marcus Jordan's. As Michael's son, he's taken advantage of that again with this Air Jordan V collaboration that dropped exclusively at his Trophy Room boutique. This time around, he combined the colors of MJ's college and NBA teams to create the colorway, and added details inspired by his father's actual trophy room, like the gold trim and cork insole. While 7,000 pairs of the blue-based colorway released to the public, it was the red friends-and-family exclusive that had collectors scrambling. What's even more impressive about its lofty resale price is that 223 pairs exist, making it not even all that limited when it comes to rare Jordans. —Zac Dubasik
