Mia Farrow's adopted son, Moses Farrow, who was later co-adopted by Woody Allen too, is speaking out against long-held sexual assault allegations made against Allen by Farrow and her adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.
In a lengthy blog post, Moses claims his mother instructed the children to watch Allen "like a hawk" and he "never once saw anything that indicated inappropriate behavior at any time." He also states "everything changed" when Allen and Soon Yi (Mia's adopted daughter) went public with their romantic relationship.
"Yes, it was unorthodox, uncomfortable, disruptive to our family and it hurt my mother terribly. But the relationship itself was not nearly as devastating to our family as my mother’s insistence on making this betrayal the center of all our lives from then on," he wrote.
On the other hand, he claims Mia physically and mentally abused him and his siblings. In one instance, he said she accused him of taking a tape measure but when he denied it, she slapped him and forced him to admit to taking it. He also blames her for the alleged suicides of his siblings, Tam and Thaddeus. "For all of us, life under my mother’s roof was impossible if you didn’t do exactly what you were told, no matter how questionable the demand," he said.
Dylan has since responded to the blog post on Twitter.
"As I said when he last made these claims, this is an attempt to deflect from a credible allegation made by an adult woman, by trying to impugn my mother who has only ever been supportive of me and my siblings," she wrote. "It's easily disproven, contradicts years of his own statements, is beyond hurtful to me personally, and is part of a larger effort to discredit and distract from my assault. My brother is a troubled person. I'm so sorry he's doing this."
30-year-old journalist Ronan Farrow, Dylan and Moses' brother, defended Dylan in his own statement released Thursday. “Not worth saying much to dignify the repeated campaign to discredit my sister, often by attacking our mother,” Farrow wrote in a statement posted on social media. “This happens every time Dylan speaks, so this is all I’ll offer: My mother did an extraordinary job raising us, and none of my siblings with whom I’ve spoken ever witnessed anything but love and care from a single mom who went through hell to keep her kids safe.”
He continued, “Our brother Moses said the same thing in statements dating back many years. After relentless legal scrutiny of my mother’s parenting—and efforts to discredit her—she was granted sole custody to protect us from Woody Allen. We all grew up with offers from him to speak out against our mother in exchange for support. (He made helping to pay for my college education contingent on turning against her and lying. I declined.) … I believe my sister.”
The allegations against Allen, which concern an incident that allegedly happened when Dylan was seven years old, first started in 1993. Then, ahead of the #MeToo movement, the case came back into the limelight when Dylan spoke out about the incident for the first time in 2014. Allen has since denied the allegations.
