Tracy Morgan on Jussie Smollett Case: 'Racist People Don't Be Jumping Nobody in a Polar Vortex'

During the 'Last O.G.' actor's appearance on 'The Tonight Show,' he offered his opinion on the Jussie Smollett incident.

Tracy Morgan appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday to discuss a list of things. When asked about his upcoming endeavors, however, he did not hesitate to take a jab at Jussie Smollett's controversial incident.

Around the 55-second mark of the video below, the comedian jokingly reveals that he just got a role on the show Empire, stating that he was "contractually obligated" to fake a hate crime. This is an obvious reference to Smollett and his alleged involvement in staging a racist and homophobic attack (a comprehensive timeline of the Smollet case can be found here).

When asked by Fallon if he bought Jussie's story, Morgan said, "Nah man! Come on, first of all, racist people don't be jumping nobody in a polar vortex," he said. "Racists don't be watching Empire, man. If it's too cold, they'd say 'we'll be racist in the spring.'" (Around the day of the alleged attack, Chicago, along with many parts of the country, was experiencing temperatures as low as negative 42 degrees Farenheit.)

Smollett's heavily publicized incident went from heartbreaking story to legal anamoly within weeks, as many discrepencies were found between his account and the existing evidence. After being charged, the incident ultimately ended with all charges being dropped, however it's apparent that many skeptics remain.

Aside from this, the Last O.G. actor talked about his and Tiffany Haddish's show's success, as well as the impact he wants to have in the real world. He revealed that he renovated a garden in Brooklyn, and is hoping to do more for the community. "We gave TBS a No. 1 show and they asked me, 'What do you want Mr. Morgan?' And I said I want to fix my neighborhood up."
