The streaming giant revealed in October that 142 million households around the world watched Squid Game in the first four weeks since its launch. The South Korean show also became the sixth title to eclipse three billion minutes viewed in a single week. The series, which cost a reported $21.4 million to produce, has generated about $900 million in value.
Silenced, starring Gong Yoo, who plays The Salesman in Squid Game a.k.a. the guy in the suit who repeatedly slaps Seong Gi-Hun while playing ddakji, is one of the three Hwang-directed films added to Netflix. According to The Verge, it tells the story of a teacher who tries to expose faculty members that have been abusing their students, but finds out the surrounding community is willing to not let the truth come out.
The comedy-drama film Miss Granny is about a 74-year-old woman who somehow returns to her 20-year-old self.
Set in 1636, 2017’s The Fortress centers around King Injo who retreats with his court to the Namhansanseong fortress and considers the critical next steps in the face of an incoming Qing invasion.
