Mahershala Ali wants to see Ka's story told on the big screen.
In a TikTok posted on Sunday (February 16) by creator Jake Rohn, the two-time Academy Award winner was asked about what rapper he'd like to see portrayed in a movie.
"There's an artist that I love and admire that not enough people know enough about: a brother by the name of Ka," Ali began. "Extraordinary emcee. Him and Roc Marciano, I think, laid the groundwork for a really relevant underground sound that has had a wonderful life in the last 12 years or so."
He continued, "So I would like to see a documentary on Ka and his life. I know he's an extraordinary man, he was a friend, New York City firefighter, an extraordinary emcee, an amazing producer. I think the world needs to see that."
At 52 years old Brownville rapper-producer, born Kaseem Ryan, died last October due to unspecified reasons just months after the release of his ninth and final studio album, The Thief Next to Jesus. In addition to homages from fellow artists, Ka's widow, Mimi Valdes, film producer and chief creative officer of i am OTHER, honored him in an Instagram carousel.
While Ali's keeping Ka's catalog in his rotation, the actor can look forward to new music from Marciano, who released DJ Premier-produced single "Armani Section" earlier this month. The pair are also cooking up a joint LP slated for release sometime this year.
Ali has long been a fan of rap, and even ditched a career as a rapper in favor of being an actor.
The actor, who used to go by the moniker Prince Ali, made it clear that part of his life is over. “I’m retired, brother!" Ali once told Jimmy Fallon. "I’m retired.”
