Among the many impressive films coming out of Netflix in 2022 is The Adam Project starring Ryan Renolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and more, and now the movie has received its first teaser trailer.

In a reverse Back to the Future scenario, Ryan Renolds is a futuristic fighter pilot who travels back in time and encounters his younger self, played by Walker Scobell. The two must fight off various interdimensional threats as future Adam seeks to gain more answers from his father, played by Ruffalo. Jennifer Garner also stars in the movie as Adam’s mother.

The Adam Project was directed by Shawn Levy, the man behind Reynold’s 2021 video game action flick Free Guy, and the script was penned by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nolan, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Levin. According to a Vanity Fair interview that Reyolds did in January, the movie is also loosely based on the strained relationship the actor had with his father, who passed away in 2020.

“I have this thought about life, which is that we tell ourselves stories,” Reynolds said. “So you have this central character who has told himself a story about his own father that isn’t necessarily true. I know that I’ve done that in my life. I’ve told myself stories to justify things about my father and my complicated relationship I had with him before he passed. Reconciling that is really difficult.”

Netflix unveiled its slate of 2022 films last week, with titles including Knives Out 2 starring Daniel Craig, The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, You People starring Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, and Lauren London, and many more.

The Adam Project is hitting the streamer on March 11. Watch the teaser trailer for the new movie up top.
