The Game has shared a new update regarding the current status of his Drillmatic album.

In an Instagram Stories post on Tuesday, Game showed gratitude to Jay-Z “for clearing all 7 samples” on the upcoming album. He also reiterated his prior comments about having what he considers the strongest album of the year.

“3 more sample clearances & the AOTY belongs to me & hit-boy,” he wrote.

In May, Game told fans not only that he considered his new album to be the best of the year, but also that it had given him the same feeling he had earlier in his career

“I know my album gone be the best album of 2022, ’cause the energy feels like I just signed my deal,” he said on Instagram at the time. “You’ve never heard me rap like this, I promise you.”

Amid the same update, Game also said the album would be in fan’s hands in “less than 30 days,” although that release window ultimately came and went.

While Drillmatic didn’t arrive in June, a new song from Game and Hit-Boy did. The track, titled “Violence,” notably references Jay.

Earlier this year, Game linked with the artist formerly known as Kanye West for the headlines-garnering song “Eazy.” In a subsequent Drink Champs interview, highlights from which Complex broke down here, Game credited Ye with giving him motivation for this chapter of his career.

“It’s crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than [Dr. Dre] did for me my whole career,” he said during the March-shared interview. “It’s what it is. And so that n***a got me inspired and Ye gonna tell me ‘You got me inspired.’ I watched Ye yesterday tell Elon Musk, like, ‘Game the one that got me inspired.’”
