Kawhi Leonard put on his A&R hat to deliver “Bestie” with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Capella Grey. The single will be featured on Kawhi and music executive Eesean Bolden’s forthcoming music project, Culture Jam Vol. 1.
Along with the new track, Kawhi revealed that Culture Jam Vol. 1 will be released in two parts, with the first due out this Friday, Oct. 22. The project features appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Rod Wave, Ty Dolla Sign, Wale, NLE Choppa, Yung Bleu, Gunna, Polo G, and more.
“Bestie” is just the latest example of the impressive crooning of Capella Grey paired with the lyrical chops of A Boogie, illustrating the diverse and vibrant sounds that are alive and well in New York City right now. Before “Bestie” dropped, Culture Jam’s official Instagram shared a snippet of Kawhi listening to one of the other tracks on the project that features Lil Uzi Vert.
Kawhi talked about the thought process behind wanting to put this project together back in May, explaining that he’ll be donating a portion of the sales to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation.
“It’s just something that could uplift our community. And, you know, a portion of each stream is gonna go to the Mamba & Mambacita [Sports] Foundation,” Leonard said. “It’s just something good for the community, you know what I mean?”
The first annual Culture Jam Sports and Music Festival will also go down in L.A. on Nov. 21 at The Shrine. The Wayno-hosted event will feature performances from Cordae, Bluebucksclan, and others, as well as panels on financial literacy and mental health. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, October 22 at 10 a.m. PST and the event will be live streamed for those who can’t make it in person over on Amazon Music’s Twitch Channel.
