The intent behind the upcoming XXXTentacion documentary from director Sabaah Folayan was to “humanize” the late artist, his mother says.

XXXTentacion’s mother, Cleopatra Bernard, spoke with TMZ this week following a screening and revealed what she hopes fans will be able to take away from Fader Films’ Hulu Original documentary. According to Cleopatra, fans should be “able to relate” to the larger story behind X’s career.

“I don’t think it’s gonna change the image and that wasn’t our intent,” she said. “Our intent was to humanize him. I do think it will do that. … We’ve all done crazy shit in our lives at one point or another, just not in front of a camera so I think people will be able to relate.”

Cleopatra added that 50 Cent was the first to see the doc, noting that—while he “loved it” and “gave it a 10”—he did share with her some notes about what was, and what wasn’t, included.

“We only get one shot at this, and there was things that was left out that should have been in there,” Cleopatra, who was joined by manager Solomon Sobande in the TMZ clip, said. “Like he was so much more than an artist. He also did a lot of charity work that wasn’t put in there. The pregnancy test, they did not include that at all. And this was blood paperwork from the hospital to show that the young lady was never pregnant. The film is supposed to be truthful all across the board and I felt like, and he felt like, that should have been something that they should have spoke more on.”

Other artists who were given an early look at the doc included 21 Savage and Fivio Foreign, both of whom are also said to have had kind words to say about it. See more from Cleopatra and Solomon up top, via TMZ.

Look at ME: XXXTentacion will premiere on Hulu on May 26. Per an official synopsis, Sabaah Folayan’s film—which counts both Cleopatra and Solomon as executive producers alongside Rob Stone—will feature “frank commentary” from family and friends. Additionally, previously unseen archival footage is utilized in the director’s portrayal of X’s impact.
