Another performer at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show caught everyone’s attention last night.

Justina Miles interpreted Rihanna’s songs in American Sign Language and was praised across the internet for her dynamic performance. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the 20-year-old is the first Black woman to give the ASL interpretation during the pregame and halftime performances on Sunday, where she interpreted all 13 minutes of RiRi’s show.

During the Super Bowl pregame, the Philadelphia native also interpreted Sheryl Lee Ralph’s version of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

According to CBS News, Miles is hard of hearing. She previously went viral on TikTok for interpreting other well-known songs, like Lil’ Kim’s “Crush On You” for the song’s challenge in 2020.

Miles was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the DMV area, attending Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington D.C. where she was valedictorian. She is now attending Bowie State University in Maryland where she’s studying to become a nurse. In addition to her academic achievements, Miles participated in the Deaflympics from 2021 to 2022 for Team USA, where she came in second for the 4X100 women’s track relay.
