Ali Gatie just keeps pulling on heartstrings. The Toronto singer has just shared his new track, “Crying in the Rain”, and boy, is this one a tearjerker.

Known for his vulnerable, raw love songs, Gatie continues to croon over an airy blend of pop and R&B. On “Crying in the Rain”, he details leaving a loved one on the backburner while focusing on his own challenges. “It’s about leaving that person you love stranded in their own battles because you weren’t able to fight off your own,” he says.

“Crying in the Rain” follows last month’s single “Perfect.” Gatie is gearing up to release more new music coming this spring, and is set to play Coachella this April.

In an interview with Complex Canada, Iraqi-Canadian Gatie said he wants to set a precedent for artists like him: “I want to be that example that first Muslim Arab artist to have a No. 1 single or album. I think it’s a statement for that community. So my hope once I make it big commercially is that the next kid would be able to tell their parents about pursuing music. Like, ‘Damn, Ali was just another immigrant kid with no connections or anything.’ It doesn’t even have to be an immigrant kid, but even the average Joe who just loves music and wants to work hard.”

Last year, Gatie released his EPThe Idea of Her, featuring collabs with Marshmello, Ty Dolla $ign, and Alessia Cara. He also performed at the 2021 Juno Awards alongside Tate McRae, who he linked up with on “Lie to Me.”
