Offset Reflects on Dancing in Music Videos for TLC and Whitney Houston as a Child

Offset's start in showbiz might be a little different than you might think.

In a new Variety cover story ahead of the release of his upcoming album, the rapper eflected back to a time when he danced backup in music videos for TLC and Whitney Houston.

“I started off as a child doing this shit on accident,” he told the outlet. “My mama pulled up like, ‘Hey, when the music plays, dance!’ I’m like 8 years old and I get picked to be in a Whitney video. That’s big. So that be a reminder: I always think of my past to remind myself, ‘This shit is gonna be fine.’ That’s how I stay in pocket. That’s how I know I’m going to be great.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Offset confirmed Cardi B, Future and the late TakeOff appear on his still-untitled project, as well as Latto, Travis Scott and Chloë Bailey.

“This is me going full-fledged into my solo career,” he said. “The objective is to do it fully and smash shit and fuck the game up as a solo artist. I’m coming through, bustin’ through the door. It’s all set, my next chapter. It’s my time.”

While he couldn’t confirm a release date, Offset said that his album is slated for release via Universal’s Capitol Music Group this summer with a tour on the horizon.

Offset also credited Cardi B and his family for helping him quit lean.

"I put down lean," he shared. "I was drinking my whole career. It opened my mind up, but I never thought it helped me create. I feel like getting past that, cleaning up, and putting that message out."

As for the woman who helped inspire him to quit, he calls her his "bestie."

"She always got my back, right or wrong," Offset said. "We both are on the same mission to make each other better. We both are on the same mission to make each other better. Social is her strong point, so I listen to her social advice. And me, it’s the music, but I play behind the scenes; it’s my wife so I want to make sure she win."
