Cardi B is eager to get Lil’ Kim on her next album, but she’s also having some trouble deciding which song to work on with her.

In an extensive interview with Nessa for Hot 97, the “Hot Shit” rapper revealed she’s got a few track in mind for a possible Lil’ Kim collaboration in the near future. After addressing her decision to push back the follow-up to Invasion of Privacy, she revealed she wants to make sure that it’s a big moment not just for her, but for Kim, too.

“I even hit her up, I want Lil’ Kim on my album,” she said at the 15:00 point of the interview above. “I do have a song that I think, ‘Aight she’s good for it,’ but then I’m also debating on another song. Because I kinda want her on this one, too. What I really wanted to do was like an ‘Aunt Dot’ with her. … But then I’m kinda debating, is that gonna be like a little bit outdated? How’s it gonna be? … I just want the song I do with her, I want it to be like a super, like, great comeback. I just don’t want to put her on my album on a song and it’s like, ‘Cool, yeah, she had a Lil’ Kim feature.’ I want this to be like her insane…her moment.”

Cardi hasn’t yet consulted with Kim on the tracks she’s struggling to decide between. “I haven’t had the conversation with her yet, I did talk like, ‘I’m working on something, just wait,’” she said. “But I haven’t had the conversation on the things that I would want her to say, or the energy. … Because I do want her to come with a certain type of energy. But I haven’t had the conversation because I’m so indecisive with the song.”

Bardi compared how she would approach the collab compared to reuniting with Megan Thee Stallion on a new track, which would come with a lot of pressure because “WAP” was such a huge success. “If I was to do another song with Megan, I have to really make sure I do three or four songs and it’s gonna make sense because ‘WAP’ was just such a big moment,” the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker added. “It just has to be, ‘Oh my god, they’re a great duo.’ And that’s what I really want with Kim, like something that just makes sense.”

In tandem with today’s release of “Hot Shit,” Cardi also opened up about what inspired her to get Kanye West and Lil Durk on the single. “I always felt like it was for a male rapper, but I couldn’t pick just any male rapper,” she explained around the 4:30 point. Cardi praised Durk for “doing his thing” and “grinding” before he really hit it big over the past couple years, saying, “He just shows this is what happens when you have patience.”

When she sent the track to Durk, he sent back a verse by the next day. “We had the Kanye verse, but I still felt like it was missing something,” she said. “Kanye took his time to do his verse.”

Even though she had to wait a bit longer to hear what Kanye cooked up, he apparently played it around his friends and collaborators enough that he was clearly a big fan. “That really means a lot to me,” she said. “It’s not forced. … Wow, he really liked the song, he gave me a chance!”
