As the Philadelphia Eagles collectively continue to bask in the glow of their first Super Bowl, the franchise now has to deal with free-agent acquisition Daryl Worley’s arrest early Sunday. Both Philly.com and the New York Daily News report Worley was arrested after being found unconscious in his vehicle. The vehicle also allegedly contained a weapon.
“A source close to the situation confirmed an NFL Network report, which said Worley became combative with police,” Les Bowen of Philly.com reported. “Police used a Taser to subdue Worley. The source said team officials are discussing the situation, and that Worley very well might be released.”
Additional reports state Worley’s vehicle was blocking a driveway, and that the newly acquired defensive back was being held by the Philadelphia Police Department. The arrest has sparked speculation that the Eagles may release Worley before he even suits up for the team.
The Eagles traded for Worley, a third-year cornerback, as part of an offseason deal that sent Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers.
Per Bowen, an Eagles spokesperson said the team is still gathering information about the incident involving Worley. The Eagles are scheduled to start an offseason conditioning program Monday, April 16.
