Kevin Durant decided to join the Brooklyn Nets over the New York Knicks, but James Dolan and the Knicks' front office may have helped him ultimately make up his mind.
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the Knicks "were not prepared to offer" a full max contract to Durant due to concerns over his ability to recovery from his Achilles injury.
Durant is expected to receive a four-year, $164 million contract with the Nets.
Knicks team president Steve Mills released a statement in response to the organization missing out on the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
"While we understand that some Knicks fans could be disappointed with tonight’s news, we continue to be upbeat and confident in our plans to rebuild the Knicks to compete for championships in the future, through both the draft and targeted free agents," the statement reads.
The Knicks have since used their cap space on signing Julius Randle to a three-year, $63 million contract, and inking Taj Gibson to $20 million deal over two years.
