D'Angelo Russell's free agency has ignited mounting questions and countless rumors.
Though the 23-year-old guard will become a restricted free agent this summer, many suspect he will leave the Brooklyn Nets once—or if—Kyrie Irving joins the team. The deal could prompt the Nets to renounce Russell's right, allowing him to join another franchise. But which one? The Timberwolves? The Suns? Or perhaps the team that drafted him, the Los Angeles Lakers?
According to Bleacher Report, sources close to Russell say he is considering a return to L.A. now that Magic Johnson is no longer the team's president of basketball operations.
Per the outlet:
Los Angeles traded Russell to the Nets in 2017, and acquired point guard Lonzo Ball to fill the space. But now that Ball is headed to New Orleans as part of the Anthony Davis trade deal, the Lakers have found themselves with several openings. And according to insiders, the team is now eyeing the All-Star.

In 2017, D'Angelo Russell was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets, but looking back, he's really glad about where he's at right now.
Shortly after the Lakers traded Russell to the Nets, Johnson explained the reasoning behind the move. And it wasn't exactly flattering.
"D’Angelo is an excellent player, he has the talent to be an All-Star," the then-Lakers president said. "We want to thank him for what he did for us, but what I needed was a leader. I needed somebody also that can make the other players better, and also that players want to play with."
During an interview on First Take last month, Johnson opened up about his decision to leave the Lakers and why he ultimately "had to get [Russell]' out." He claimed the trade was largely due to the salary cap and Russell's drama with Nick Young.
