Last year, Space Jam 2 was officially greenlit with LeBron James attached to star in place of Michael Jordan. Since then, LeBron has confirmed that filming was set to commence sometime this year. Everything seemed to be lining up for the highly anticipated basektball comedy, and it was even announced that LeBron would have a basketball court built on set so he could train between filming. However, NBA reporter Brian Windhorst has indicated that there's been a bit of trouble when it comes to getting other NBA stars involved.

"He's been recruiting players to come and try and be in Space Jam with him this summer, and he hasn't been able to close some of those deals," Windhorst said on ESPN's The Jump. "Some of the top guys he wants to come with him to do the movie."

He didn't cite any reasons for NBA stars not jumping at the chance to appear, but he did think it might have something to do with LeBron stealing all the spotlight. "You put me in the movie where you're the star, I'm going to be the one you're dunking on," Windhorst jokingly speculated.

Space Jam 2 is still scheduled to hit theaters on July 21, 2021, with Terence Nance set to direct. There's still no word on if Bill Murray will reprise his role as Bill Murray,.
