UPDATED 7:35 p.m. ET: Anthony Davis has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for "directing an obscene gesture toward a fan." The decision was announced on Wed. by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

See original story below.

Anthony Davis hasn't exactly had the best season in New Orleans. Davis desperately wants out of the Crescent City and things got very awkard when his trade demands weren't met. But things have gone from bad to worse after AD flipped off a fan in New Orleans on Wednesday. However, it looks like Davis may have had a good reason for the obscenity.

According to messages posted by the Pelicans Wave Instagram, the fan instigated the conversation with Davis. Witnesses say the fan then shot him the bird and Davis was apparently just returning the favor.

"Some fan disrespected me. Said something I didn't like," Davis wrote to the account. "Never disrespected the city and never will. But of course they not gonna show what the fan said."

Davis has had a tense season since word got out that he was looking to head west and join the Lakers. Relations with the Pelicans have degraded to the point that Davis admitted that any other team could make a case to lure him away
