The final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie has come through the warp pipe.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie features a star-studded voice cast which includes Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Jack Black (Bowser), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad).

Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, the animation studio producing the movie alongside Nintendo, defended its poorly-received decision to cast Pratt as Mario. “All I can tell you is the voice that he’s doing for us and Mario is phenomenal,” Meledandri said.

Following the release of a new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the Nintendo Direct virtual presentation in November, fans came away with an overwhelmingly positive reaction to hearing Anya as Princess Peach for the first time.

Taylor-Joy said she never considered herself to be a gamer as a child, but everything changed once she landed the role of Peach.

“Once I booked the job and my friends were so excited [for it], we bought all of, you know, the Mario Kart world and we really went for it,” she told MTV News. “My favorite way to play is at the arcade, though. I’ve now become, like, a hardcore adult arcade individual. … I don’t think I’ve ever had friends be more excited for anything I have ever done.”

Anya Taylor-Joy is Princess Peach in the forthcoming 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie'. She caught up with @JoshuaHorowitz to discuss falling in love with video games, loving the arcade, and why she'll be touring with a crown 👑

Black discussed the pressures that come along with playing such an iconic villain during a panel at New York Comic Con 2022. “It was a lot of pressure because Bowser is known and loved by millions around the world for years. He’s one of the greatest video game villains of all time. So there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that built-in fanbase,” he said, as transcribed by Shock Ya! “But with great responsibility comes great power!”

The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and penned by Matthew Fogel, whose previous screenplay credits include Minions: The Rise of Gru, and the oddly titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters on April 5.
