Chicago Bishop Michael Curry Became a Star at the Royal Wedding

Michael Curry's sermon appeared to move Oprah Winfrey.

Today might be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day, but it was Chicago bishop Michael Bruce Curry who caught the attention of viewers with his sermon on love and service.

"There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it," he said during the 13-minute sermon. "Don’t even oversentimentalize it. There’s power, power in love. If you don’t believe me, think about a time when you first fell in love. The whole world seemed to center around you and your beloved. There’s power, power in love."

But it wasn't all about feeling love—he also called on listeners to "change the world" with love too. "We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love, and when we do that we will make of this old world a new world. For love is the only way," he said, recalling Martin Luther King, Jr. words. "Let justice roll down like a mighty stream and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream," he said at another moment, quoting Amos 5:24.

Curry was pretty much a star in this ceremony. One attendee, who goes by the name of Oprah Winfrey, seemed physically moved.

Of course, Oprah wasn't the only witness to have a strong reaction to Curry's rousing speech.

Bishop Michael Curry is the first African-American leader of the American Episcopal Church, which is an offshoot of the Church of England. Watch the entire sermon above or read it in full here.
