Shaggy and Sting performed at Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd birthday party in London at Royal Albert Hall over the weekend and left a lot of people simply asking: why? Yes, they did release a reggae album together called 44/876 which is quite good, but it is safe to safe that the unlikely duo was even a more unlikely choice to perform at a birthday party for a 92-year-old queen.
Yet here we are.
Shaggy and Sting performed their track "Don’t Make Me Wait" and while some members of the royal family and other attendees appeared to be into it, not everyone was (please watch the video and look at Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice faces, it is priceless). When Shaggy asked the crowd, "where my reggae people at?" he was met with silence. Awkward. He soon walked into the crowd and motioned for the audience to put their hands up. Many half-heartedly did, and the sight was pretty amusing. The song itself was solid, but it was clear that Shaggy was a little out of his element, not for lack of trying. Sting pretty much just chilled on the stage, sang a little, and played some bass. At the end of the song, the duo was met with confused applause by the royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seemed to be delighted though, but maybe that's just the almost-married glow. The Queen's polite face was tough to read.
Her Majesty's 92nd birthday was on April 21. Kylie Minogue, Shawn Mendes, and Tom Jones also performed at the Queen's big party.
