Judd Apatow Pokes Fun at Kanye's Mask While Sitting a Few Rows Behind Him at Super Bowl, Ye Reacts (UPDATE)

Judd Apatow, who isn't exactly known for widely imitated fashion choices, shared some Super Bowl LVI-focused commentary during Sunday's game.

UPDATED 2/14, 8:25 p.m. ET: Ye caught wind of Judd Apatow’s post and responded on Instagram, writing, “This what happens when you don’t get the Hillary tattoo.”

Both King of Staten Island director Judd Apatow and the artist formerly known as Kanye West were among those in attendance for Super Bowl LVI, which ultimately saw the Los Angeles Rams proving themselves victorious over the Cincinnati Bengals, complete with a Dr. Dre-centered halftime show.

Documenting the experience on Instagram, Apatow revealed that he was actually seated quite near Ye, who initially arrived to Sunday’s televised proceedings wearing one of his full-coverage masks that have become an oft-imitated staple of the Donda and Donda 2 era.

“I’m sitting near Kanye. He seems very hot and sweaty in the mask,” Apatow, who served as a producer on the Ye-featuring Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, joked. “I overheard him say, ‘man I wish I didn’t go with the mask today, but now that I’m in it I can’t really bail on it. Do you think I could lose it at half time? Seems like a logical place to make a change.’ His friends said, ‘no. You have to commit.’ Then Kanye said ‘I wish we would have cut some more vents in this thing.’ Then his pal said, ‘I told you to go with the creepy contact lenses but you didn’t listen. You never listen.’ Go Rams!”

In a follow-up post, Apatow shared a photo of Ye sans face covering, extending the joke. “I got too hot. I can’t do it,” the Apatow Productions founder wrote in the caption. See more below.

Monday, Julia Fox offered a brief response to Apatow’s joke-focused commentary by way of an emoji-loaded comment on a subsequent Page Six IG update.

Notably, Fox’s wordless reaction comes amid reports of her and Ye having ended their brief (but well-documented) relationship. A rep for the No Sudden Move star and Forbidden Fruits co-host told E! News that she and Ye will “remain good friends and collaborators,” although they are “no longer together.”

As for Apatow, this isn’t the first time he’s waded into Ye-focused commentary. During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in 2017, for example, Apatow reflected on how a disagreement in costume design briefly delayed the filming of Ye’s aforementioned Anchorman 2 cameo.
