GoldenEye 007 enthusiasts have cause for celebration, as it’s now been confirmed that the long-revered N64 title will be rolling out this week to Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass.

On Friday, Rare’s classic first-person shooter (originally released in 1997) will launch for players equipped with a Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack membership. The Switch version, notably, will boast the ability to enjoy the Bond universe in online multiplayer mode.

The Xbox Game Pass rollout is also slated for Jan. 27, albeit with a few differences from the Switch version. Per a press release, fans expect “key additions for a modern audience” including 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD and unlock able achievements. The title will be made available for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles via Xbox Game Pass.

Even 26 years removed from its original release on the N64 platform, GoldenEye 007—based on the Pierce Brosnan-starring Bond film—is still widely considered one of the greatest video games of all time. A 2022 list from For the Win, for example, ranked the game between Skies of Arcadia and Deus Ex. In 1998, GoldenEye 007took home the Games Award from the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

During a 2014 Tonight Show segment, Brosnan himself squared off against host Jimmy Fallon for a round of GoldenEye 007.

“I was no good at it,” Brosnan said at the time. “I played it once and shot myself in the foot.”
