Following a string of very public controversies involving its star, Ezra Miller, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash is hitting theaters later this week. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday night, Miller quickly addressed these controversies while thanking the long list of names who made this long-awaited release possible.

As noted by Deadline and other outlets, Miller was not only present at Monday’s premiere but also walked the red carpet. In a red carpet chat, as seen below via The Movie Report, they praised Muschietti’s direction on the project while also throwing acclaim in Zack Snyder’s direction.

Muschietti, per Miller, is “perfect for this genre because he is such a visual artist, similar to Zack Snyder who brought me into this whole world.”

Addressing the crowd inside the venue on Monday night, Miller continued their praise for all involved in bringing The Flash to the big screen. Miller thanked Muschietti, James Gunn, Peter Safran, and numerous others “for your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life and in bringing this moment actually to fruition.”

Monday night’s premiere marked Miller’s first such appearance since the more news cycle-penetrating aspects of the actor’s series of controversies, which at one point were speculated to be placing The Flash’s release in jeopardy. Such speculation, clearly, was premature; in fact, the film has garnered a number of glowing reviews, including for Miller’s performance and the fan-pleasing appearance of Michael Keaton.

In January of this year, Miller struck a plea deal in a Vermont burglary case in which they admitted to a charge of trespassing.

“Ezra Miller pled guilty this morning to a misdemeanor unlawful trespass in Vermont Superior Court and accepted the conditions imposed by the court,” a legal rep for Miller told Complex at the time. “Ezra would like to thank the court and the community for their trust and patience throughout this process, and would once again like to acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health.”
