El Chapo's Most Recent Capture Was Reportedly Made Easier Thanks to a "Big Order of Tacos"

The seemingly improbable series of events that had to align in order to facilitate the (re)capture of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, a.k.a. the guy who recently gave Sean Pennan interesting press boost, just added another key ingredient in the form of a "big order of tacos." The meal ultimately became presumably frustrated authorities' final clue as to El Chapo's whereabouts, theNew York Times reports.

"A big order of tacos was picked up after midnight on Jan. 8 by a man driving a white van, like the one believed to be driven by Mr. Guzmán’s associates," unnamed witnesses tell the Times of that fateful evening. Authorities had reportedly already closed in on a home in Los Mochis, with intercepted phone conversations hinting that an important guest referred to only as "Grandma" and "Aunt" was set to arrive at the property soon.

Of course, the process of actually capturing El Chapo proved far more violent than a simple late-night food order. The massive raid quickly turned into a full-on shootout with Mexican marines, with a nearby neighbor describing the chaos as "[like an] action movie." Five alleged cartel members were killed during the raid.

As for Penn's work, the actor recently revealed that he considered his controversial Rolling Stone article a failure because his goal of bringing attention to flawed War on Drug policies was unsuccessful. "I have a regret that the entire discussion about this article ignores its purpose, which was to try to contribute to this discussion about the policy in the War on Drugs," Penn told Charlie Rose. "If you are in the moral right, or on the far left, just as many of your children are doing these drugs. And how much time have they spent in the last week since this article [came out], talking about that? One percent? I think that'd be generous."
