Here's Why Dave Chappelle Never Did Rick James Sketch for 'SNL'

When it was announced that Dave Chappelle would be hitting Saturday Night Live this past November, fans of Chappelle's Show were ready to see him bring back all of their favorite characters: Clayton Bigsby, Tyrone Biggums, and others were classic, but none were as massive as Chappelle's Rick James, which was so funny it took up an entire episode of the show.

Sadly, Chappelle only brought a number of his characters on to be murdered in a hilarious Walking Dead sketch, but Neal Brennan (who created Chappelle's Show with Chappelle) told the Leonard Lapate Show that there was a Rick James sketch about the election on hand, but it ended up getting scrapped. Why? Because it was about Hillary winning, and we all know what actually happened.

"Michael Che and I wrote a sketch at 9, for Weekend Update," says Brennan. "It was gonna be a Rick James Weekend Update piece, about how he was glad that Bill Clinton — I’m sorry, Donald Trump, lost. Then me and Che had to rewrite that sketch. We ended up not doing it." All wasn't lost, though; Brennan does say that he got to write that very dope and very real "Election Night" sketch (which featured Chris Rock) for the show with Colin Jost.

You can stream all of Brennan's appearance on Leonard Lapate Show down below (the SNL-related information starts about four minutes in), and if you're in the mood for more Neal Brennan, his live show 3 Mics is now streaming on Netflix.
