The NYPD shot and killed a man who had an 11-inch blade after a chase through Times Square yesterday. The man, identified as 51-year-old Darrius Kennedy, was stopped by police for allegedly smoking marijuana, and then whipped out a huge knife and began backing away.
Police sprayed him with pepper spray six times, but it did nothing. Despite demanding him to put the weapon down, police say he lunged at them with it, reportedly yelling "Shoot me! Shoot me!" right before making the fatal move. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital some 40 minutes after the incident.
