In her new book What Happened, Hillary Clinton reflects on her experience as the Democratic candidate in the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election. In the chapter titled "On Being a Woman in Politics," Clinton explores her thoughts as saw people at Donald Trump's rallies essentially calling for her head.
To give her readers a better idea of how she felt at that moment, Clinton made a Game of Thrones comparison to the only time we may have ever felt a single ounce of sympathy towards Cersei Lannister. Of course, we're talking about the time Cersei was forced to walk naked through the streets of King's Landing by the Sparrows as a nun methodically rang a bell exclaiming "Shame," and people hurled anything and everything in her direction.
"It’s not easy for any woman in politics, but I think it’s safe to say that I got a whole other level of vitriol flung my way," Clinton wrote. "Crowds at Trump rallies called for my imprisonment more times than I can count. They shouted, 'Guilty! Guilty!' like the religious zealots in Game of Thrones chanting 'Shame! Shame!' while Cersei Lannister walked back to the Red Keep."
It's risky when Hillary starts searching for an adequate yet up-to-date comparison because she always seems to run the risk of coming off like a real-life version of that Steve Buscemi "How Do You Do, Fellow Kids?" meme. But this one works! Now, just because you were able to reach millennials this one time, it doesn't mean you should start entertaining the idea of a presidential run in 2020.
