Ok. This is another level. Earlier this morning a Berlin church, Zion Church, changed up their Sunday morning routine by holding a Star Wars-themed service. Kids came holding toy lightsabers and some members of the congregation dressed up in Darth Vader costumes.
According to Reuters, there was a screen set up by the alter that showed a clip from one of the original movies. The clip showed Luke Skywalker fighting Darth Vader and telling him that he will never turn over to the dark side. The service then opened with an organist playing the theme from the movies. A vicar in training brought it all together by announcing, "The wait is over—the Force has awakened!"
Apparently members of the congregation justified this theme by explaining the connections between their values and those explored in the Star Wars films. You know, good vs. evil.
"The more we talked about it, the more parallels we discovered between Christian traditions and the movies," the vicar in training Ulrike Garve said. "We wanted to make churchgoers aware of these analogies."
Well clearly people were interested. After all, around 500 people, the capacity of the church, showed up.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the most recent addition to the Star Wars universe, was released to theaters on Friday.
