Chrissy Teigen has been officially unblocked by the @POTUS Twitter account.
Donald Trump previously blocked the model and author on the social media platform—before he himself was permanently banned—but now Joe Biden is in control of the account following his inauguration on Wednesday.
Yesterday morning, while Teigen was in Washington, D.C. with husband John Legend and her kids, she tweeted, “hello @joebiden I have been blocked by the president for four years can I get a follow plz.”
It appears her message prompted the new president to do just that. As of this writing, she’s one of just 13 accounts @POTUS follows, the rest comprised of accounts for White House-related individuals and entities like First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, and the new White House COVID-19 Response Team account @WHCOVIDResponse.
When Teigen realized she was one of the very few lucky followers, she tweeted, “OH MY GOD !!!!!!!!!!” In a follow-up message, she wrote, “my heart oh my god lmao I can finally see the president’s tweets and they probably won’t be unhinged.”
She also jokingly said, “I should prob never tweet again,” and signal-boosted Seth Rogen's hilarious skewering of Ted Cruz, purely in hopes her follower President Biden would see it:
White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty shared a “how it started/how it’s going” meme, pairing a screenshot of Teigen’s follow request to Biden with a screenshot of who he follows.
On Wednesday evening, Legend performed during the Tom Hanks-hosted inauguration event Celebrating America, singing Nina Simone’s song “Feeling Good” in front of the Lincoln Memorial with a grand piano.
Prior to the inauguration, Teigen revealed they were in town for rehearsal, tweeting a photo of her and Legend with members of the National Guard.
Teigen also took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a photo of her at the Washington Monument and a lengthy caption, aimed at Trump. “History will not be kind to you, you absolute psychopath," she wrote. "But I never was anyhow.”
Trump blocked Teigen in 2017 after she tweeted at him, “Lol no one likes you.”
Trump’s POTUS account has now been archived.
